eADM

ExpiryDate vs ExtendLife

When managing a user in eADM, you may see an ExtendLife or Expiration Date button in the top-right row of buttons. These buttons control the user's account lifecycle, but their functionality varies depending on the user's data source.

Typically, only one of these buttons is visible. If a user is a "hybrid" or merged user (containing data from both a manual source and an HR system), you may see both buttons.

This article explains the purpose and proper use of each button.

Expiry Date Button (Manual Users)

This button is used to manage the lifecycle of users created from a manual user source (e.g., external consultants).

  • Purpose: To set or update the user's final deactivation date.

  • Action: This button updates the expiration date field directly in the source data.

  • Result: When this date is reached, eADM deactivate the user and their associated accounts (such as Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, etc.).

Warning: Do not use "Override" for manual expiration dates. It is strongly recommended that you use the Expiration Date button or the manual user wizard to manage a manual user's end date. If you use the "Override" function directly on the expiration date field instead, eADM permanently ignore all future changes to that field from the manual source. This can result in incorrect permissions and unintended access issues.

ExtendLife Button (HR-Synced Users)

This button is used to manage the lifecycle of users synchronized from an HR system.

  • Purpose: To override an end date from the HR system and keep an account active for a specific period.

  • Action: This button sets a date in the ExtendLife override field in eADM.

  • Result: The eADM and their linked accounts will remain active until the ExtendLife date, even if:

    • The HR system sends an end date that is earlier.

    • The user is no longer included in the data feed from the HR system.

Please note that you cannot reactivate users who have already been deactivated via ExtendLife. A deactivated user synced with the HR system can only be reactivated through updates from the HR system.

This article explains the difference between the ExtendLife and Expiration Date buttons in eADM. The Expiration Date The button manages the deactivation date for manual users by modifying the source data. The ExtendLife This button overrides the end date for users synced with HR, keeping their accounts active beyond the date provided by the HR system.
